My 200th Post...and some other ramblings...

Yesterday, King J and I took Princess E to the Holocaust museum.  We met a Holocaust survivor.  We heard stories from other survivors.  This was the first exposure for Princess E, and we were rather selective about which sections we allowed her to see.  I know she didn't take it all in, and that's okay.  We'll start making the trip an annual one and give her the opportunity to learn a little more each year.

Sometimes, my daughter amazes me.  See, hate isn't a concept she understands.  Prejudice isn't a concept she understands, either.  In her eyes, the physical differences among diverse racial and ethnic groups are simply the ways God made us all unique.  It is my hope and prayer that she always keeps her perspective.

Last night, King J took Princess E for a bit of daddy-daughter time.  It was an unseasonably warm day.  So, what did they do?  Mini-golf?  No.  Bowling?  No.  Dinner out?  No.  Nah, he took her to the shooting range and let her fire 50 rounds at a paper target.  Of those, 48 struck the paper and 16 of those were in the bullseye.  This was her second trip, and she did take a shooting class back in the summer...but wow.

I know some folks might consider it a little odd to allow an 8 year old to fire a real gun.  Well, at least a girl.  We firmly believe that she needs to learn to respect firearms.  By teaching her to use one properly and with all available safety precautions, we hope to avoid the kind of curiosity that gets children killed.  There is no reason for her to "sneak a peek" when she knows she will have the opportunity to fire the gun at the range on occasion.  Of course, she is never alone and it is kept in a safe for which her fingerprints are not programmed, and even if she managed to bypass all of that, she'd still have to figure out how to get past the trigger lock.

Whenever he takes her to the shooting range, I like to tease him and sing the Barney Fife phrase "Had one bullet for his pistol and he kep' it in his pocket".  Snicker, snicker.

So, we had an interesting evening at Uno's one night last week.  Murphy took over and everything that could go wrong sure seemed to.  Everything from cold coffee to cold food, to mixed up orders, to forgotten entrees.  Our server was running around like a chicken with her head cut off trying to keep everything going.  Oh my!  I should mention that we arrived for dinner at 5:00, well before the normal dinner rush.  We are regular, long-time customers, so we know this was not the norm.  The manager came to talk with us and explained that the storm (Ida) had caused major traffic delays and several employees were stuck in traffic.  Turns out, the traffic situation was bad enough to make the news.  Heavy traffic is not typical in our area.  Then, of all things, the oven went on the fritz.  I actually felt kindly sorry for the guy.  Anyway, he made it right.  After apologizing profusely, he let us know that our meals would be complimentary that night.  Given that we were a party of 7, that was quite the discount.  We were grateful for his willingness to address the problem fully.  It won't be long before we are back again.

I'm still trying to figure out this Twitter thing.  I suppose I'm rather late in getting started.  So, if you see odd tweets/twits from me, just snicker and ignore.  LOL!

Everybody have a great day!
